Meet the Grown Ups
Play Camp Ministries was founded in 2025 by area pastor Gordon Tubbs and his wife, Brett Tubbs. Through living in Abbeville, South Carolina, they discovered a childcare desert throughout the area’s yearlong school system.
Through challenges in their own parenting – like extended screen time, lack of community, and even simply missing dinner around the table with one another – the husband and wife duo dreamed of a way to both help local area parents while supporting the ministry of their home church, Upper Long Cane Presbyterian.
Together they have four boys and enjoy road trips, playing various musical instruments, making pizza and dance parties in the kitchen.
Our Mission
Our mission is to serve local families by providing an affordable, safe, fun, screen-free and community oriented environment for Abbeville area children (ages K4-2nd grade) during the school system’s intercession periods. These quarterly, weeklong camps provide campers with engaging outdoor activities, crafts, worship, and stimulating learning experiences with local thought leaders.
Through this program we hope to enrich the lives of students and their families and to create a sense of connection and peace to counteract today’s fast-moving, screen-addicted and reactive culture.
